Boat Show and Change
02-28-2018

Gary and Sally Wimmer, owners of Highway Marine in Quakertown, along with their son Dustin and daughter-in-law Jessica Wimmer, are gearing up for the year’s most anticipated (if unofficial) start to the 2018 boating season.

The first major event since Highway Marine’s showroom re-opening is the Greater Philadelphia Boat Show which will be held at the Oaks Expo Center from March 9-11.

Just two weeks later, Highway Marine will hold its own annual boat show weekend from March 23 – 25. As if a boat show weren’t enough to get you out to check out all of the latest boats, equipment and accessories, one lucky attendee could win a pontoon boat in their Grand Prize giveaway.

Gary and Sally Wimmer saw their share of change in 40 years. Highway Marine first operated from a fruit stand. When Sally was pregnant with Dustin, they began building the facility at their current location just a little further south on 309.

Though Dustin spent his childhood around boats, his first love was motocross. He raced professionally, eventually living in Georgia where he trained year-round. That’s where he met his future wife Jessica, whose brother also raced. She worked around motocross and as a “trophy girl,” her frequent talks with Dustin atop the winner’s podium cemented their budding romance. By 2011, with his motocross career behind him, Dustin and Jessica moved to Pennsylvania and married.

Dustin began working at Highway Marine, winterizing the boats, working in the shop and focusing on internet sales with the intent of taking the business reins. Jessica began working at Highway Marine a little over a year ago. Coming from an insurance background, she handles boat titles and registrations and learns all that she can to help keep the family business moving forward.

Last year a fire caused damage that forced Gary and Sally to focus on the aftermath and rebuild. With a little sense of history repeating itself during the building phase, Jessica became pregnant. Dustin took the reins as Gary retired and by Thanksgiving 2017, Asher Wimmer was born. Dustin and Jessica look forward to growing the business and to keeping it thriving to one day turn over to Asher.

Say hello to the Wimmers at Highway Marine and let them know that a boat show and change is just what you needed to kick those winter blues.
